A Harvard study, almost 80 years old, has proved that embracing community and strong relationships help us live longer, and be happier.
Director of the study Robert Waldinger said, “a surprising finding in our research is that our relationships and how happy we are in our relationships has a powerful influence on our health. Those who kept warm relationships got to live longer and happier. Loneliness kills,” It’s as powerful as smoking or alcoholism.”
At the Macklin group we are delighted to be partnering with Age NI to support their loneliness campaign, and running Friendship Days in our care homes to support elderly people in the community.
We were also really honoured that singer Colleen Gormley, who featured on The Voice chose our Lifestyle Care Home Milesian Manor to debut her new single, Four Walls in support of Age NI’s campaign.
Have a listen, and think of those elderly people in your community. Is there something small you could do for them?
